General Overview:
Under general supervision, the Surgical Technician II provides essential technical support to operating room physicians and nursing staff during complex surgical procedures. This role focuses on a primary designated service line, ensuring expertise and competencies specific to that area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes physician preference cards to prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
  • Maintains and updates preference cards as necessary.
  • Ensures an adequate supply of instruments and materials to meet patient needs.
  • Prepares the sterile field by obtaining, opening, and arranging necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Assists in draping the patient and operative area, ensuring proper sterile techniques.
  • Provides additional instruments and supplies during surgery as required.
  • Participates in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as per policy.
  • Assists with post-operative processing of instruments and equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness in operating room areas and disposes of sharps according to established protocols.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb, kneel, and perform duties under stress. May involve lifting and carrying objects. Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to stand for extended periods and possess excellent manual dexterity. Frequent exposure to needles, sharp objects, blood, and body fluids.

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician program.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.
