Qualifications for Occupational Therapists:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and hold a Master's Degree.
- Successful completion of the AOTA National Certification Examination and current membership is required.
- Must possess board certification and a valid Occupational Therapy license in at least one U.S. state or territory, with an unencumbered status and annual renewal.
- Demonstrated knowledge of family-centered care principles and methods for delivering services in inclusive settings.
- Ability to provide pediatric occupational therapy for children with orthopedic, neurologic, and behavioral challenges.
- Understanding of the medical, social, and financial aspects related to developmental disabilities in young children.
- Familiarity with typical growth and development patterns in infants and toddlers, including the effects of various risks.
- Competence in selecting and administering appropriate assessment tools for children, interpreting results, and diagnosing conditions related to motor skills and daily living activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Empathy and compassion to support families facing challenges with their child's disabilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with professionals and caregivers, advocating for the needs of children.
- Knowledge and skills to evaluate children accurately, provide guidance to families, and collaborate with other professionals.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is required, with ongoing maintenance of certification.
- A minimum of two years of experience in pediatric occupational therapy for children aged 0 to 36 months with special needs is essential.
