SUMMARY:
The General Machinist must be proficient in the operations of all controlled equipment and have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machine tools and be able to operate them safely and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Must have the ability to operate any machine tool as necessary and have the willingness to learn new skills. Will act as temporary operator on machine tools where needed and will not be assigned on a permanent basis to any one machine tool. Must have the ability to fill the job qualifications of any machine to which he is temporarily assigned. May be required to assist supervision in break-in or training of employees. May be required to repair or manufacture jigs and fixtures. May be required to work temporarily on inspection, layout, etc. Responsible for removing, cleaning, and crating rolls as required.
Responsible for assembling gears, bearings and housings on rolls as required including final assembly and know proper fits and procedures.
Must provide sufficient basic hand tools to properly perform the duties of his classification. Must exercise care in preventive maintenance on tools or equipment assigned as part of his responsibility.Must exercise care in preventive maintenance on tools or equipment assigned as part of the positions responsibility.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent (required)A technical degree/certificate in machinery or 2-3 years of related experience

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
This position does not directly supervise other associates
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Bend, squat, climb, grasp, reach, lift, or otherwise move about frequently and for extended periods of time.
Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. regularly, or more occasionally.
Walk, stand, or otherwise move about continuously.
Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require personal protective equipment.
Grasps items and performs keyboarding for the occasional operation of a computer.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
