Job Title: Principal Engineer, Hardware Development Engineering

At Western Digital, we're pushing the boundaries of technology to make the impossible possible. As a Principal Engineer, Hardware Development Engineering, you'll be part of a team that's driving innovation in data storage and semiconductor technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement new photolithography processes for HAMR development, ensuring high-quality and efficient manufacturing.
  • Design and implement process automation, including recipe setup, Advanced Process Control, and Statistical Process Control.
  • Document processes and procedures, train technicians/operators, and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Provide HAMR photo weekend coverage, track and disposition critical wafer holds, and support process owners as needed.
  • Support track flow recipe setup and urgent Archer recipe setup for HAMR layers, facilitating the transfer of mature HAMR photo processes to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive HAMR manufacturability initiatives, such as route reduction, new mark layer testing, and cost reduction projects.
  • Support HAMR photo layer MFG metrology qualification and implementation, including SS10K, ODIN, defect inspection metrology, and optical image undercut metrology.
Requirements:
  • MS or PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of industrial experience, preferably in photolithography process engineering.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to find correlations and patterns among large amounts of data.
  • Strong quality mindset and ability to work with diverse teams and people from different backgrounds.
  • Hands-on experience with ASML scanner, NSR, Canon, DNSC, and TEL tracks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Photo process engineering experience in data storage or semiconductor industry.
  • Hands-on experience in photolithography process development, including DOE, SPC, APC, and JMP.
