Emergency Services
The Emergency Department at Children's Hospital of Michigan is recognized as a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a dedicated pediatric burn center. Our team of experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine delivers exceptional care to thousands of children annually across various locations.

Position Overview
Under the supervision of Medical Directors and the Patient Care Services Transport Manager, the role involves delivering comprehensive, safe, and effective medical care to neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients transported by the CHM Critical Care Transport Team, PANDA One, utilizing both ground and air ambulance services. This position requires the application of specialized techniques, precautions, and procedures to provide essential care and respond to critical situations.

Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct thorough initial and ongoing assessments of patients' health status to evaluate their physical and emotional conditions, initiating appropriate interventions as necessary.
2. Employ the nursing process, clinical judgment, and technical skills to perform both routine and complex therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in accordance with established policies and treatment guidelines.
3. Execute unique transport procedures, including:
- Oral Endotracheal Intubation
- Maintenance of Endotracheal Tubes
- LMA Insertion and Maintenance
- Emergent Cricothyrotomy
- Tracheostomy Tube Management
- Effective Ambubag Mask Ventilation
- Mechanical Ventilation Initiation and Maintenance
- Oxygen and Nitric Oxide Administration
- Resuscitation as per BLS, NRP, PALS, ACLS protocols
- Establishing Venous Access
- Interpretation of Laboratory Reports and Radiographic Studies
- Needle Decompression of Pneumothorax
- Defibrillation and Cardioversion
4. Coordinate and supervise the activities of non-nursing members of the transport team, ensuring all patient care information is documented accurately during transport.
5. Maintain communication with patients, physicians, and hospital staff regarding patient conditions and progress.
6. Ensure all nursing transport equipment and supplies are maintained according to established procedures and assist in evaluating equipment for transport suitability.
7. Report transport-related issues to the Manager of Patient Care Services and collaborate with Medical Directors to address patient care challenges.
8. Participate in the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of the transport program, contributing to policy and procedure development.
9. Engage in educational activities related to transport for both in-house and referral hospital staff, providing relevant instruction to patients and families.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or enrollment in a BSN program.
2. Valid Michigan nursing license.
3. Minimum of three years of experience in pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, or level 1 pediatric trauma.
4. Current employment in pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, or level 1 pediatric trauma.
5. Must possess a current passport or enhanced driver's license or be eligible to apply for one.

Required Certifications
- BLS
- NRP
- PALS
- ACLS (or completion during orientation)
- C-NPT (or completion within one year of hire)

1. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with staff, patients, and families.
2. Clinical judgment and analytical skills for comprehensive care planning and documentation.
3. Physical ability and dexterity for patient transport and emergency procedures.
4. Interpersonal skills for productive collaboration with various stakeholders.
5. Proficiency in computer usage.
6. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving patients and equipment.
