Job Responsibilities

Oversee and assess accounts and operations to guarantee adherence to state and federal Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax regulations.

Conduct on-site evaluations within the assigned service area; adhere to established protocols for notifying employers, coordinating logistics, executing audits, documenting findings, and performing follow-up actions to ensure compliance with state unemployment tax statutes and Tax Performance System (TPS) standards.

Assess UI tax obligations for both new and existing employers, as well as individuals providing remuneration services; confirm accurate wage reporting to ensure correct determination of UI benefits and taxes; reach out to employers when claim wages, financial data, and/or reports are absent or erroneous.

Initiate procedures to recover overdue taxes and quarterly tax submissions; carry out investigations and asset tracing to identify responsible parties; secure bankruptcy details to safeguard agency interests; draft written Liability Determination notices; and execute tax enforcement measures, including authorizing tax liens to seize bank accounts and other receivables belonging to the delinquent employer or liable individual, conducting on-site asset evaluations, recommending subpoenas, and issuing arrest warrants, Memoranda of Lien, and requests for FIFAs.

Engage extensively with various stakeholders to address inquiries; gather and verify information; resolve issues; and interpret and apply UI tax legislation.

Essential Qualifications

Familiarity with regulations and procedures pertaining to UI employer tax obligations; principles of quality assurance and cash management; generally accepted accounting principles and practices; and collection activities.

Proficient investigative, negotiation, customer service, verbal and written communication, and computer skills, including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Capability to interpret and apply laws and regulations; work autonomously and collaboratively to achieve objectives; conduct research and audits; review and analyze financial and accounting records; collect, analyze, and report data; make informed recommendations; prepare reports; and provide court testimony and technical support.

Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, as extensive travel within the service area is necessary.

Additional Considerations

Education, experience, and/or training in business, accounting, and/or finance.

Experience in reviewing, analyzing, and/or processing financial transactions.

Background in tax investigation and/or auditing.

Experience with state and federal UI tax laws and associated policies and procedures.
