Correctional Medical Assistant

CoreCivic is seeking a highly skilled Correctional Medical Assistant to join our team in San Diego, California.
Job Summary:We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to provide medical support services to inmates and staff in a correctional facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering medication, obtaining and recording vital signs, preparing patients for exams and procedures, and assisting medical personnel with various tasks.
Responsibilities:- Administer medication to inmates and staff under the direct supervision of the Health Service Administrator.
- Obtain, monitor, record, and report vital signs and patient conditions as needed.
- Prepare patients for physical exams, procedures, and treatments.
- Assist medical personnel with physical exams, procedures, and treatments.
- Assist with the control and inventory of sharps, medical supplies, and equipment.
- Assist with preparing and maintaining various reports and logs.
- Keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly.
- Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
- Assist with the inspection of the medical unit for contraband items.
- Perform CPR when needed.
- Facilitate NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program.
- Escort inmates and staff to and from different areas for medical treatment.
- Reliably identify inmates and staff by visual means.
- Engage in functions in confined areas, including working rotating shifts and physically checking doors, windows, and other areas to verify they are secure.
- Be aware of verbal abuse and take appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
- Inspect unclothed inmates and staff with possible exposure to body fluids, wastes, and contagious persons.
- Endeavor to comply with applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards, and/or contract.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with others and handle difficult interpersonal contacts.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings, promote communications, and the proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Review, process, and respond to lawsuits; attend court hearings when necessary.
- Interpret an extensive variety of medical and technical instructions.
- Communicate effectively and coherently to administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the general public.
- Operate a vehicle during the day and night in various driving conditions.
- Remain alert at all times and react quickly, efficiently, and calmly in emergency and other high-stress situations.
- High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent.
- Current certification from an approved formal nursing assistant program or equivalent program with written consent from corporate Director, Health Services, and be CPR certified.
- Appropriate certification or licensing in the state where practice occurs.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
