Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Health Preparedness Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our emergency response team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing training programs and exercises to enhance public health preparedness and response throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and coordinate training activities and special initiatives for the public health preparedness program.
  • Design and deliver training programs and exercises to enhance public health preparedness and response.
  • Collaborate with regional planners and MCM coordinators to develop regional multi-year training and exercise plans.
  • Participate in facilitating exercise planning meetings, workshops, and other events.
  • Assist in creating, developing, designing, and conducting drills and exercises in compliance with grant requirements.
  • Serve as an initial first responder for DSHS Region 9/10 within the regional incident management structure in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and practices related to emergency management and public health preparedness and response in Texas.
  • Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the National Response Plan (NRP).
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional design principles, adult education training techniques, and presentations.
  • Ability to reason and make sound judgments and decisions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize one's workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare complex written reports and present complex information to a variety of audiences.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to respond to emergencies and disasters as needed. The position also requires the ability to travel and to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
