Richmond, Virginia, United States Commonwealth of Virginia Full time
Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to providing equal opportunities in education and employment without discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, political affiliation, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or disability.

Position Overview:

An exciting opportunity exists for a research scientist to engage in the exploration of regulatory mechanisms associated with transporters that influence addiction, anxiety, autism, depression, OCD, and various neurological disorders. The ideal candidate will conduct in vivo research utilizing genetically modified mice alongside cell culture and brain tissue investigations to elucidate the role of GPCR-linked transporters in typical behavior and the implications of transporter dysregulation in neurological conditions. Key methodologies include: cell culture, western blotting, trafficking studies, molecular biology techniques, rodent surgical procedures, intracranial infusion (using pharmacological and genetic-viral agents), DREADD-mediated neuronal activity modulation, microscopy, and a variety of behavioral assessments, such as drug self-administration, conditioned place preference, memory tasks, fear extinction, depression, and pain-related behaviors.

For further details and a comprehensive bibliography, please refer to the appropriate academic resources.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. The selected candidate should be prepared to work on weekends, as ongoing behavioral assessments require consistent monitoring of laboratory animals. Proficiency in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and effective communication in collaborative environments is essential.

Core Responsibilities:
Develop experimental designs and execute experiments aligned with research hypotheses and objectives. Analyze data and prepare presentations and manuscripts for publication. Maintain animal colonies as necessary. Conduct literature reviews to support research initiatives. Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in biotechnology, neuroscience, molecular biology, biological sciences, behavioral pharmacology, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in animal research and cell biology. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.

A commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the workplace is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in research involving rodents for behavioral assessments, biochemical and molecular analysis, and surgical techniques with rodents.

This position is contingent upon project needs, funding availability, and performance evaluations.
