Join Our Team as an NDE Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled NDE Research Engineer to join our team at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI). As a key member of our Structural Materials division, you will be responsible for conducting research and development in nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques for materials characterization.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in experimental methods, modeling, and simulation, with a focus on materials characterization and NDE. You will work closely with our team to develop and apply NDE modalities, including ultrasonics, electrical impedance tomography, electromagnetic, and thermographic methods, to assess ceramic, polymer, and carbon matrix composites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply NDE modalities for materials characterization
  • Conduct research and development in NDE techniques for materials characterization
  • Collaborate with our team to develop and improve experiments
  • Support single- and multi-physics model development
  • Communicate research results through publications and presentations
Requirements
  • Graduate studies in applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or related field
  • Minimum of two years of directly related experience
  • Experience with modeling composite material response and/or material signal interactions using finite element method and/or similar numerical approaches
  • Experience with MATLAB or scientific data analysis programming languages such as Python
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Interest and ability to communicate and interact with multidisciplinary scientists
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD degree in applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience developing multimodal physics-based numerical models
  • Experience with test system development including instrumentation integration
  • Experience working with socially and culturally diverse community
  • Experience with inverse problems and optimization methods
