UPMC Life Changing Medicine is currently seeking a Healthcare Support Specialist to join our dynamic team.

Position Overview:

This role will involve a variety of responsibilities, including both clinical and administrative tasks. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in a healthcare setting, although recent graduates from medical assistant programs are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with management to identify and implement improvements in clinical and non-clinical operations, infection control protocols, and patient evaluations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all designated tasks within the practice.
  • Manage patient records, including obtaining lab and imaging reports, completing necessary forms, scheduling appointments, and verifying insurance information.
  • Perform clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests, while assisting physicians as needed.
  • Facilitate team meetings to communicate updates and procedural changes aimed at enhancing service quality and patient safety.
  • Oversee workflow and delegate tasks to other clinical personnel.
  • Act as the primary user for the Epic Care system within the department.
  • Provide information and education to patients and their families as directed.
  • Support management in supervisory tasks and contribute to the development of departmental goals and procedures.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow by managing schedules and assisting patients with their needs.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality regarding patient information.
  • Comply with all relevant regulatory standards and UPMC policies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent training is preferred.
  • Certification from recognized bodies (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) is advantageous.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in patient care is required.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology are essential.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • CPR certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
  • Compliance with Act 34 is mandatory.
