Job Summary

Meadville Medical Center is seeking a skilled OB Technician to join our team. As an OB Technician, you will assist the Registered Nurse in providing and coordinating direct and indirect care in the New Life Unit and Pediatric Units based on standards of care and policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing staff with patient care throughout the New Life Unit.
  • Provide assistance to nursing/medical personnel in direct patient treatment.
  • Ability to assist with operative procedures following AORN and MMC guidelines for cesarean sections, circumcisions, and other procedures as required.
  • Perform technical skills specific to the NLU.
  • Provide treatment and maintain patient comfort and safety.
  • Accuracy of M&S Supplies, procedures, and pharmacy charges.
  • Assist in the admission and discharge process, including certified car seat inspection.
  • Perform ongoing audit of supplies in the department. Stock units: nsy, cribs, C/room, PEDS, LDRP rooms accurately. Monitor expiration dates of all supplies.
  • Flexibly respond to changing needs of unit, willingly float to other units, adjust work schedule to meet the unit's needs.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams that evaluate clinical practice or health services.
  • Report pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (physician, charge nurse, supervisor, etc.).
  • Transport patients.
  • Perform clerical/receptionist duties for the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Maintain current state certification as a nursing assistant.
  • Previous scrub experience preferred and/or a graduate of an accredited surgical technician program.
  • Provide instruction and explanation to staff, patient, and/or significant other.
  • Communicate with other members of the health team in a calm, professional manner.
  • Has experience with computers.
  • Ability to concentrate and prioritize, plan, and perform professional care to resolve patient care problems and interact with patients, families, staff, and other team members.
  • Able to share with nursing team plans necessary to develop and implement a plan of care for the patient's well-being.
  • Current BLS required.
