Job Summary:
The Cardiac Sonography Specialist II is accountable for executing a range of technical responsibilities essential for the acquisition of echocardiographic assessments and ensuring the seamless operation of the adult echocardiography unit.
In this role, cardiac sonographers will independently conduct or assist licensed practitioners in various cardiac imaging tasks. Responsibilities include preparing, administering, and documenting activities related to ultrasound enhancing agents in accordance with applicable regulations and institutional policies.
Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients across specified age groups in their designated department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify correct orders, ensure patient identification and preparation for examinations, and accurately document clinical histories while maintaining confidentiality.
- Utilize appropriate imaging protocols, optimizing technical parameters to maximize patient safety and care, adhering to ALARA principles (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
- Prepare and/or administer medications through established vascular access sites as directed by licensed practitioners.
- Assess images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality, ensuring data archival and/or transfer, and post-processing as necessary.
- Educate and supervise students and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate abnormal findings to providers to prioritize further testing or urgent care needs.
- Collaborate with licensed practitioners during sonographic interventional procedures.
- Ensure diagnostic and interventional equipment parameters meet optimal technical and administrative standards as requested.
- Perform diagnostic and interventional imaging sonographic procedures as prescribed by licensed practitioners or during educational activities.
- Demonstrate commitment to departmental and organizational priorities.
- Achieve proficiency in all assigned routine and complex job responsibilities.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the modality.
- Support approved research activities.
- Assist with structural heart procedures.
Position Requirements:
The following certifications are required upon hire:
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a sonographer or certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification and
- Adult Echocardiography: ARDMS (AE) or CCI credential.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
Education:
Graduate from a Specialty Training Program in a Related Field of Study (Required), Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field of Study (Preferred).
Certifications and Licenses:
Adult Echocardiography - ARDMS or CCI, Basic Life Support Certification, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Sonography (S) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
