Job Summary

The City of Avondale is seeking a highly skilled Building Plans Examiner to join our Development Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for reviewing residential and light commercial building plans for compliance with the City's adopted building codes, standards, and policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review residential and light commercial building plans for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances
  • Approve or deny plans as appropriate and advise applicants of needed revisions
  • Coordinate with front counter staff on plan review and permit issuance process
  • Provide oral and written responses to inquiries from construction industry professionals and building owners concerning plan check procedures, code requirements, and code interpretations
  • Conduct field inspections as needed
  • Prepare and maintain records of plan review activities
  • Enter, review, and maintain project data, legal documents, and correspondence through permit tracking and plan review software

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency
  • Five (5) years of experience working with residential and light commercial construction projects
  • Must obtain a Building Plan Review Certification from the International Code Council (ICC) within twelve (12) months of hire
