Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Resources Engineer to join our team at the Department of Water Resources. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for inspecting, documenting, and developing/maintaining a levee utility features database within the State Plan of Flood Control (SPFC).

This is a unique opportunity to apply your engineering skills in both office and field environments while contributing to our mission of protecting lives and reducing property damage caused by floods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to Departmental responsibilities related to the operation, maintenance, and evaluation of levees and channels of the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Flood Control Project.
  • Focus on field investigations and engineering analyses to evaluate the State's flood control system, perform utility crossing inspections, assist in system vulnerability assessments, and participate in engineering studies and analyses of the integrity of the Central Valley Flood Control System.
  • Develop and use databases and ArcGIS Online (AGOL) portals to organize flood control system information, track system status and changes, and support the development and update of the State Plan of Flood Control.
  • Support in documentation and assessment of flood control systems, projects, and structures operated and maintained by the State and local maintaining agencies throughout the Central Valley.
  • Work cooperatively with others, maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance, exercise good engineering judgment and initiative, reason logically and creatively, utilizing a variety of analytical techniques, GIS tools, and research skills.
Requirements
  • Must possess a California driver's license.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, as-builts, permits, and Civil Engineering Manuals.
  • Working knowledge of geospatial tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, AGOL, ArcCollector, ArcGIS Dashboard, and similar software packages.
  • Working knowledge of MS-Access and other database platforms.
What We Offer

This position is currently eligible for 60% telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is based on the Division of Flood Operation's needs and evolving telework policy and is subject to change.

Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises.
