Transportation Operations Specialist

This position is located in the Local Transportation Team (LTT) of the Transportation Operations Unit, in the Travel and Transportation Section (TTS), Facilities and Commercial Activities Service, Division of Administration, Department of Operational Support.
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Drive vehicles safely to transport passengers and materials to and from specified destinations.
- Monitor the operation and level of all systems and equipment on the vehicles to ensure correct and safe operation.
- Load and unload cargo in a secure manner to ensure no damage to cargo or vehicle.
- Operate equipment such as forklifts (electric) to lift up to two tons, as high as 8 feet, tailgate to raise up to 3,000 lbs to the level of the truck end.
- Pack/store cargo in a compact manner so shifting does not occur.
The incumbent reports administratively to the Foreman of the Local Transportation Team under the overall guidance of the Chief of the Travel and Transportation Section.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job-Specific Qualification:
A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required and must be attached to the application.
Work Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record are required.
Experience working at a basic level on a vehicle's mechanical system is desirable.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, etc.) is desirable.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment:
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
