Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Professional to join our Critical Care team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive and individualized care to patients and families in the Inpatient/Critical Care phase of hospitalization.

Responsibilities
  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for patients and families in the Inpatient/Critical Care phase of hospitalization.
  • Collaborate with Critical Care staff to develop and implement individualized plans of care.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and interpret results, communicating findings to the healthcare team.
  • Consult with Critical Care and inter-professional services regarding abnormal findings in patient evaluations.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive individualized plans of care for patients, including teaching, establishing disposition/discharge planning, and necessary referrals to other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in physician/team rounds and identify unstable or complex patient care situations, facilitating appropriate intervention with appropriate resources.
  • Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making, identifying, evaluating, and managing individual patient needs.
  • Facilitate patient discharge disposition or transfer by coordinating appropriate services.
  • Base decisions and actions on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care, and/or research findings.
  • Promote an environment that facilitates learning by responding to patient/family preferences, priorities, and readiness to learn.
  • Update own knowledge base throughout the year and complete all identified clinical competencies.
  • Mentor nursing personnel in all levels of clinical practice.
  • Communicate effectively with patients/families, providers, interdisciplinary teams, and ancillary services to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Document the plan of care, interventions, and evaluations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Adhere to established Performance Expectations for WVU Medicine Employees in the areas of People, Service, Performance Improvement, and Shared Values & Culture.
  • Perform initial assessment and develop plan for new admissions in conjunction with the Critical Care attending physician and/or team.
  • Ensure patient summary (i.e., Problem List) and orders are current, comprehensive, and accurate.
  • Ensure appropriate transition to next team when patient is ready to leave the ICU.
  • Perform appropriate procedures as directed by Critical Care Team and/or within scope of practice.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
  • BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
  • Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS) Certification required immediately upon hire (based on class availability).
Preferred Qualifications
  • ACGNP certification or ACNP preferred, but would consider FNP.
  • Acute care, critical care experience preferred.
