Role Summary:
The Patient Care Technician is responsible for providing direct care to patients across various age groups under the supervision of a licensed nurse. This role aligns with the established protocols of practice, the overarching goals of Mercy Health System, and the ethical standards set forth by the Sisters of Mercy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Patient Care: Assist in delivering care to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient care and observations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with nursing staff to implement care plans.
- Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. with enrollment in an accredited nursing program. Candidates must provide transcripts showing completion of Fundamentals of Nursing and a competency skills list from their educational institution.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within one month of hire.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly, along with the capacity for prolonged standing and walking.
- Preferred Experience: Background in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), previous patient care experience, or certifications such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
