Role Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated RN-PACU nurse to provide exceptional care to patients recovering from anesthesia. The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail, ensuring that patients safely transition from an anesthetized state to full responsiveness.

The PACU is designed to care for patients recovering from various types of anesthesia, including general, regional, and local. As an RN-PACU nurse, you will be responsible for delivering thorough care through monitoring, assessment, intervention, and ongoing evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-operative assessments for patients.
  • Verify that all operative and informed consents are properly completed.
  • Regularly monitor PACU patients, tracking vital signs and other post-surgical indicators.
  • Initiate IV lines and ensure patients are well-informed about their procedures.
  • Review patients' medical histories to identify critical information.
  • Perform post-operative duties, including dressing changes and medication administration.
  • Address patient inquiries and maintain their comfort throughout recovery.
  • Monitor for any changes in patient conditions and communicate findings to the physician.
  • Respond to postoperative emergencies with appropriate interventions.
  • Provide guidance to patients and their families regarding home recovery, including dietary and activity restrictions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Nursing Diploma or endorsement accepted
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required for new graduates and preferred for experienced RNs

Experience:

  • One year of nursing experience preferred
  • Specialized nursing skills and knowledge relevant to the PACU

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current RN License required; valid state nursing licenses or RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium Work - Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs constantly
