Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and preside at design development project meetings to assist with planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Prepare or review contract plans and specifications for selected construction projects.
  • Work with architects and engineers to develop construction plans and specifications.
  • Finalize project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist in the selection of architectural and engineering firms.
  • Assist design team with the selection of building components and mechanical systems.
  • Format and prepare construction bid documents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Compile and submit reimbursement requests and project closeout documentation to state and federal agencies.
  • Review certified payroll and DBE reports.
  • Coordinate with other City Departments on various projects.
  • Assist purchasing department with bid letting and opening.
  • Oversee construction and perform construction administration duties.
  • Approve contract changes and payments to contractors.
  • Conduct periodic inspections, resolve problems or disputes related to construction projects; conduct final inspections.
  • Review and approve commercial plans submitted for site development permits, minor land disturbances, or residential development permits.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to engineers, inspectors, and contractors in the inspection of commercial development projects.
  • Maintain the pavement management system inventory database; analyze and provide candidate lists for resurfacing projects.
  • Respond to public inquiries and provide information in regard to discharge problems and other issues.
  • Maintain current flood plain maps.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Building Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in an office or in the field.
  • Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather, and may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
