Job Summary:

The Director of Development will lead the planning, direction, and coordination of fundraising activities for major and planned giving prospects and donors focused on the East Coast of the United States, with a particular emphasis on the Boston and Washington DC markets.

This role will be part of a national Individual Giving team and will work closely with the Executive Director who manages the East Coast team.

The Director will work with individual high-net-worth donors and family/private foundations to secure funding for CARE's mission through unrestricted/flexible funding, restricted/designated gifts focused on CARE's core programs, planned gifts, and support all campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage an active and dynamic portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Develop and implement strategic engagement and solicitation strategies for both donors and prospects.
  • Solicit outright gifts of $10K to focus on gifts of $25k to meet (or exceed) annual and quarterly fundraising goals.
  • Work with Planned Giving colleagues to support the endowment campaign and cross-team collaboration goals.
  • Work with the Major Gifts team and other CARE partners to steward donor gifts with formal and informal updates and impact reports on gifts secured.
  • Creatively and thoughtfully build meaningful connections and relationships between donors and the organization.
  • Responsibly and thoroughly keep donor records and pipelines updated in CARE's CRM, and Salesforce.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in a fundraising role.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising concepts, including Planned Giving, Major Gifts and stewardship functions.
  • Passion and commitment for CARE's mission and values.
  • A creative thinker with proven ability to produce and manage multiple events at one time.
  • A self-starter, detail oriented, well-organized and able to plan and execute events from conception to completion.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, good judgment and discretion, and the ability to successfully interact with donors, board members, guest speakers and staff at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies and plans that integrate into the organization's mission, priorities and goals.

  • Consistently achieves results, even under tough circumstances.
