Position Summary:
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is responsible for evaluating patient care requirements and administering anesthetic services for surgical patients. This role involves the delivery of various anesthetic modalities, including local, general, inhalation, regional, intravenous, and monitored anesthesia care for surgical, obstetric, therapeutic, and diagnostic interventions. The CRNA will engage in preoperative consultations with patients to discuss anesthetic plans, monitor patient responses to anesthesia, and adjust care as necessary.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of anesthetic agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques essential for patient anesthesia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of anesthesia treatments and procedures.
- Conduct preoperative evaluations to determine physical status and anesthetic risks, preparing patients for anesthesia.
- Administer anesthetics under medical supervision during surgical, obstetric, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
- Address critical patient care needs related to invasive monitoring, intravenous access, and airway management.
- Perform pre-and post-anesthesia evaluations, including explaining the anesthesia plan, obtaining informed consent, and following up on any postoperative complications.
- Provide education, guidance, and mentorship to student nurse anesthetists, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to the professional growth of colleagues and peers as requested.
- Report quality and safety concerns related to anesthesia cases and develop improvement strategies to enhance safety and performance.

Physical and Environmental Considerations:
This position may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. The role may require frequent handling of potentially hazardous equipment and occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions. Physical demands may include lifting and carrying heavy objects, as well as various movements such as bending, climbing, and reaching.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience: Must be a graduate of an accredited CRNA program and possess current certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the Mississippi Board of Nursing or another state. If currently a student, must be within 180 days of graduation.
Licensure: Certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is required at the time of hire.
