Role Summary:
The CRNA will be responsible for evaluating patient care requirements and delivering anesthetic services for surgical patients. This includes administering a variety of anesthetics—local, general, inhalation, regional, intravenous, and monitored—for surgical, obstetric, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. The CRNA will also engage in preoperative consultations with patients to discuss anesthetic needs, monitor patient responses to anesthesia, and adjust care as necessary.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of anesthesia agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatments and procedures.
- Conduct preoperative evaluations to assess physical status and anesthetic risks, preparing for anesthesia administration.
- Administer medically supervised anesthetics during various procedures.
- Address critical patient care needs related to invasive monitoring, intravenous access, and airway management.
- Perform pre-and post-anesthesia evaluations, including explaining the anesthesia plan, obtaining informed consent, and following up on any postoperative complications.
- Provide education and mentorship to student nurse anesthetists, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to the professional growth of colleagues and peers as requested.
- Report quality and safety issues related to case management and develop improvement measures to enhance safety and performance.
Physical and Environmental Considerations:
This role may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. The CRNA may also work with potentially hazardous equipment and face occasional biohazardous conditions. Responsibilities may require extended hours, travel to offsite locations, and physical activities such as lifting, climbing, and standing for prolonged periods.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited CRNA program.
- Current certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the Mississippi Board of Nursing or another state.
- If a student, must be within 180 days of graduation.
Licensure Requirements:
Must hold certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at the time of employment.
