PACU RN Job Description

Mission Community Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate PACU RN to join our team. As a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients who have undergone surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and monitor patients in the post-anesthesia care unit to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician and document patient responses.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia providers and members of the surgical team to develop and implement an individualized plan of care for each patient.
  • Monitor and maintain patients' vital signs, oxygenation, and pain levels.
  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding post-operative care and discharge instructions.
  • Manage patient flow in the PACU, ensuring efficient turnover of beds and timely discharge of patients.
  • Document all care provided accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure patient safety.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to new nursing staff in the PACU.

Requirements:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a critical care setting with a focus on post-anesthesia care.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
