Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Crew Leader Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our highway maintenance team, you will be responsible for leading and directing the work of others, ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of Virginia's roadways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate work schedules and resources to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks
  • Lead and direct the work of crew members, providing guidance and training as needed
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Apply knowledge of traffic control and work zone safety procedures to minimize disruptions to traffic
  • Conduct on-the-job training and recommend additional training needs to supervisors
  • Perform snow and ice removal and other emergency response activities as needed
Requirements
  • Ability to interpret and apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals
  • Leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to direct and motivate team members
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Ability to perform heavy labor and use hand and power tools
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and DOT medical certification required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in highway maintenance and construction, with knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance techniques
  • Experience in work zone set-up, traffic control, and gladding, including the use of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
  • Experience in leading and directing teams, with a strong focus on safety and quality
