Job Title: Fusion Technical Staff

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Fusion Technical Staff member to join our Nuclear Science & Technology team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule, with every Friday off, located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex facility. This position conducts experimental and analytical work supporting the Fusion Safety Program, with a focus on experimental facilities that perform ion beam/plasma materials interaction and tritium permeation studies.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, assemble, and operate unique laboratory experiments.
  • Perform experiments in coordination with prescribed test matrices.
  • Support the operation and interpretation of results from the fusion safety computational capabilities.
  • Operate laboratory instrumentation, including diagnostics, repair, replacement, and fabrication of components.
  • Meet environmental, health, and safety goals, and perform all work in an environmentally safe and compliant manner.
  • Participate in research planning by contributing to project planning and review meetings.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and participate in conference activities.
Qualifications:
  • PhD and 0 years of relevant experience (Level 2).
  • PhD and 2 years of relevant experience (Level 3).

Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in:

  • Design, assembly, and operation of pressure, vacuum, and electrical systems.
  • CAD software such as inventor, creo, and solid works.
  • Computer control of experimental equipment, computer programming languages (FORTRAN), data acquisition (LabVIEW), and data analysis and interpretation (MatLab, Mathematica, IDL,...).
  • Knowledge of energy systems materials.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.

Applicants must be able to qualify for:

  • Respirator usage.
  • Radworker II training and perform radwork inside the tritium confinement enclosure.
  • Perform experiment apparatus mechanical and instrumentation assembly with hand tools and power tools.
