Job Summary
The Flat Rate Technician is a key member of our team at Penske Automotive Group, responsible for diagnosing and repairing vehicle components with efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to dealership and manufacturer standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections, troubleshooting, and testing to determine required or recommended repairs
- Accurately diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary repairs, including engine failures, mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions, and part replacements
- Verify vehicle serviceability and ensure quality repairs by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems as needed
- Communicate effectively with Service Advisors and Dispatchers regarding additional work requirements
- Assist Service Writers in writing work orders, conducting test rides, and interacting with customers to ensure customer satisfaction
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and company standards
- Document all work performed and recommended on repair orders in accordance with operating procedures
- Stay up-to-date with automotive technology and terminology
- Adhere to attendance and punctuality standards, recording start and end times for shifts, breaks, and departures
- Follow the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct, work rules, and procedures
- Uphold confidentiality and non-disclosure policies
- Present a professional appearance in accordance with company policy
- Participate in training and attend company meetings as required
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, with two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- ASE Certification preferred
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Knowledge of automotive systems, tools, and repair processes
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to use technical reference materials and communicate technical terms to non-technical audiences
- Effective time management and prioritization skills
Work Environment
This role will primarily work in an automotive shop environment, with occasional exposure to varying weather conditions and safety hazards. The position requires standing for prolonged periods, lifting over 50 pounds with assistance, and performing repetitive motions.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, reach, grasp, and walk on a regular basis. The employee must be able to talk and hear.
