Job OverviewThis 8-week paid program provides one-on-one clinical experience with a RN preceptor and includes nursing professional development workshops and shadowing opportunities.
The program is designed for nursing students who are graduating in Fall/Winter 2025 or Spring 2026 and are available to work 24 (part-time) or 36 (full-time) hours per week.
As a Nurse Extern, you will assist in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, maintain a clean and safe patient environment, and perform job responsibilities in a safe manner.
Essential Functions- Support patients/residents with activities of daily living.
- Assist patients/residents with personal hygiene.
- Take vital signs and height and weight measurements.
- Feed and ambulate patients/residents according to specific procedures.
- Maintain patient/resident's rooms in a clean and orderly condition.
- Observe and report changes in patient/resident conditions.
- Orient patients/families to unit and instruct patient on safety measures.
- Assist with clerical work such as answering phones, entering data, and maintaining medical records.
- Maintain stock supply items in inventory management.
- Perform duties as outlined in the scope of Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II tasks.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Currently in good standing in Registered Nurse academic program required.
- Successful completion of Junior year or equivalent at the time of the Nurse Extern program required.
- Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II prior to start date required.
- BLS required per policy guidelines.

CompensationThe estimated salary for this position is $18-$22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
