The City and County of San Francisco is seeking a skilled Cable Installation Specialist to join our team in the Department of Technology's Public Safety division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting communication, data exchange, monitoring, and alarm systems owned or subscribed to by the City and County of San Francisco.
Key Responsibilities- Install, arrange, splice, terminate, and test data and telecommunication cables, including outdoor copper and/or fiber optics cables.
- Troubleshoot outdoor copper cable and fiber optic installations using copper analyzing equipment, optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs), power meters, and light sources, and other diagnostic tools, equipment, and procedures.
- Locate and repair fiber cable faults; install underground cable; perform cable sizing, gauging, splicing, terminating, and closing; use proper confined space entry procedures in underground vaults.
- Perform installations, testing, and acceptance of circuits on both copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Perform splicing of fiber of various strands.
- Maintain and update database of installation and repair work, service requests, and work orders; maintain database of parts and components inventory.
- Provide technical expertise and information to engineering staff and outside wiring contractors as needed.
- Estimate cost of copper and fiber optic cable installations; maintain records of materials ordered.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Four (4) years of experience working in the telecommunications industry as a Cable Splicer, which includes two years of experience installing, arranging, splicing, terminating, and testing copper cabling and two years of experience installing, arranging, splicing, terminating, and testing fiber optics cabling.
- Possession of a current valid Driver License.
The incumbent will conduct the majority of work at various City Agencies throughout the City of San Francisco as well as some remote CCSF facilities outside of the City and County of San Francisco. The incumbent's primary reporting and dispatch location will be 200 Paul Ave, SF, CA, 94124.
Candidate must be willing to work a 40-hour week as determined by the department. Travel within San Francisco may be required.
