Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Technologist to join our Orthopedic Clinical Resource team at Salem Hospital, Inc. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the management of all aspects of the orthopedic service line, including the delivery of care to patients.
  • Work under the supervision of the RN to deliver safe and effective care to patients.
  • Request and utilize governing and administrative resources, technological and support systems, and multidisciplinary clinical experts to manage and deliver quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Function as an expert Surgical Technologist II with a specific surgical focus, encompassing all aspects of patient/family care, including the availability and appropriateness of equipment, standards, and competencies.

Job Specific Responsibilities

As a Surgical Technologist on our Orthopedic Clinical Resource team, you will be responsible for:

  • Utilizing the standards of the Patient Focused Model to assist staff nurses with plans, implement, and evaluate, and manage care for all patients with consideration of age, developmental, socioeconomic, psychological, physical, spiritual, and cultural factors.
  • Practicing reflects knowledge of current medical literature and resources, demonstrating ongoing learning in appropriate science, such as contemporary medical, pharmacologic, pathophysiology to care for specific patient types.
  • Maintaining competency in surgical practice and clinical skills and making annual plans for professional development.
  • Collecting and analyzing patient information, collaborating with nurses, physicians, and healthcare team members to expedite and coordinate the delivery of services and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Collaborating with physicians regarding patient's surgical equipment, supplies, and implant needs.
  • Assuring timely initiation, completion, communication, and documentation of services provided.
  • Identifying barriers to implementing the plan of care or to achieving expected outcomes, consulting appropriate resources to report and/or resolve problems.
  • Seeking out innovative opportunities to improve patient care.
  • Exhibiting fiscal accountability through cost-effective use of time, material, and other resources.
  • Assisting staff nurses to coordinate all resources to facilitate the hospital admission process and a successful discharge.
  • Acting as a resource/consultant for all team members.
  • Developing and revising instructional materials for staff development in collaboration with educator.
Leadership Management

As a member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for:

  • Assuring practice meets external regulatory agencies' requirements.
  • Assisting in identifying areas for improvement and developing plans for compliance.
  • Chairing and/or participating on unit committees to promote achievement of Division and Unit Objectives.
  • Assisting staff to perform basic and unit-based competencies through referral or one-on-one teaching.
  • Collaborating with Manager/Clinical Leader in development and implementation of Performance Improvement activities.
  • Role modeling collaborative practice behaviors, communications, and standards.
  • Developing plans and making recommendations for the most cost-effective use of time, materials, and other resources for the area of clinical focus.
  • Ordering supplies and equipment for service.
  • Developing Doctor preference cards.
