Director of Information Governance
Velocity Search Group is seeking a highly skilled Director of Information Governance to join their team. This role will be responsible for managing and overseeing the information governance and records management functions within the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute an information governance strategy and data privacy policies.
- Establish and maintain a robust records management program, including the creation, classification, retention, retrieval, and disposal of records.
- Collaborate with the firm's IT and cybersecurity teams to develop and enforce data privacy and security protocols.
- Monitor regulatory changes and industry standards, ensuring the firm's practices align with legal and ethical requirements.
- Assess, select, and implement appropriate systems to support information governance and records management activities.
- Coordinate the transfer of information in or out of the firm in compliance with Firm policies, ensuring the proper execution of destruction orders.
- Implement supporting protocols and processes to ensure statutory, regulatory, ethical, and privacy requirements are met for the management of physical and electronic information.
- Create/enhance the Firm's information governance policies, including but not limited to retention and disposal, data sharing, records management, archiving data, and data privacy.
- Analyze client audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement and maintenance in the information governance framework Data Privacy and Security.
- Develop the Firm's data privacy framework to align with emerging domestic and international data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, SEC Regs S-P & S-ID).
Requirements:
- Extensive experience (8+ years) in information governance, records management, or a related field, preferably within a law firm or legal environment.
- In-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements, including data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and legal hold obligations.
- Strong understanding of information lifecycle management principles, including classification, retention, and disposition.
- Familiarity with legal document management systems (DMS) and records management software.
- Proven experience developing and implementing information governance policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Broad knowledge of information management and protection laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Required Education: Bachelor's degree in information management, Library Science, Legal Studies, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CRM, IGP) are preferred.
Compensation: $175k - $210K
