Patient Access Lead, Night Shift, Onsite

Job Summary:
The Patient Access Lead will be responsible for the proactive oversight of successful client relationship and client strategies to ensure quality measures are met for patient care. This position will also supervise on staff and monitor compliance with State and Federal laws and guidelines. Provides communication of information between staff & other departments. This position is located onsite at a hospital in California.
Key Responsibilities:
- Registration - Accurate collection of demographic data and explanation of required documents to patients at the time of registration.
- Collection and Insurance - Accurate documentation of insurance information. Assists patients with explanation and collection of co-payments and self-pay deposits.
- Maintains a positive working environment and high morale that reflects the philosophy of the service area and the hospital.
- Oversight of the operations in the absence of Department Supervisor.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and serves as a role model for staff.
- Works closely with the Department Supervisor in the following areas:
- Monitoring completion of timecards.
- Employees attendance records.
- Schedule - all shifts.
- Daily monitoring of all admissions and registration to assure all forms are signed and all insurance have been verified and authorized, and all demographics information is completed.
- Assists with training of all newly hired employees.
- Assists with the administration of the department, for the purpose of reports, documentation, payroll records, statistical requirements, and other data required.
- Meets with patients to resolve questions regarding their billing statements.
- Provides financial counseling and assist patients with payment options.
- Assist with account reconciliation and merges.
- Assist with patient escalations.
- Support frontline operations as needed (e.g., staff shortages).
- Assist Supervisor with frontline staff assignments/station assignments.
- Support varied shifts as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by hospital organization focused to Financial Counseling, Cashiering and Customer Service:
- Assist patients with the completion of Medi-Cal applications.
- Maintain and reconcile cash balances.
- Research billing inquiries from the Business office.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience with Health Insurance Programs and eligibility.
- Previous experience with State and Federal financial assistance programs.
- Three (3) or more years patient access experience or equivalent healthcare experience in a hospital/medical/clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
