JOB SUMMARY:

Provide individualized, high-quality education to children in a center-based environment. Encourage and support parents in their role of teaching their children at home to enhance self-esteem and maximize family involvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Planning:

  • Establish a learning environment that promotes exploration, experimentation, and creative play.
  • Design, organize, and implement daily lesson plans that align with developmentally appropriate practices and utilize research-based methods and materials.
  • Utilize observations and data to tailor lessons to meet the developmental needs of children.
  • Develop classroom interventions and Positive Guidance Plans for children requiring more targeted instruction.
  • Make appropriate referrals for further assessment and support when classroom interventions are not effective.

Supervision & Guidance:

  • Employ a positive approach to guidance and behavior management that emphasizes children's strengths and promotes the learning of new behavioral and social skills.
  • Establish classroom structure and routines that assist young children in developing self-regulation and independence.
  • Ensure constant supervision of children to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment.
  • Apply Active Supervision principles consistently while overseeing children.

Teaching:

  • Engage actively with children daily, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Incorporate both child-led and adult-led educational experiences, seizing both planned and spontaneous learning opportunities.
  • Encourage each child to explore, experiment, and express creativity.
  • Foster a love for learning.

Assessment:

  • Regularly collect and document observations and data on children's progress using the TS Gold system.
  • Utilize the DECA tool to maintain accurate records and develop targeted plans to support children's behaviors and outcomes.
  • Employ the Speed DIAL 4 Tool to assess cognitive, speech, language, and motor development.

Collaboration:

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary assessments and IEP meetings for children involved in special education processes.
  • Welcome parents, community visitors, and volunteers into the classroom.
  • Collaborate with classroom staff to plan activities, define roles, implement lessons, and reflect on outcomes.
  • Conduct required home visits and parent-teacher conferences to reinforce family involvement in children's development.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and the classroom team to share curriculum and individual goals for children.
  • Share developmental outcomes and progress reports with families and set appropriate goals that consider any special needs.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Implement personal safety strategies during home visits.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding classroom status.
  • Maintain consistent job attendance throughout the program year.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

SUPERVISION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

This entry-level position requires collaboration with the Professional Development Team to determine career advancement opportunities. Requests for career ladder consideration must be submitted in writing and include reflections on work alignment with agency goals, accomplishments, and personal development goals.

To qualify for advancement to Teacher II, a Teacher I must complete specific requirements, including mentorship, attendance at relevant conferences, successful performance reviews, and consistent documentation of children's progress.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The working environment includes busy classrooms or shared office spaces, travel by vehicle, and exposure to varying weather conditions. The noise level is typically moderate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education, or an associate degree with relevant experience is preferred. Registration on the Montana Early Childhood Practitioner Registry and membership in relevant professional organizations is expected.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Employees must be able to perform essential functions, including talking, listening, standing, walking, and sitting. Regular lifting of up to 35 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds is required.
