Fleet Mechanic - Diesel Specialist Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Fleet Mechanic - Diesel Specialist to join our team at Dairy Farmers of America. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on our fleet of diesel-powered vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues with diesel engines and transmissions
  • Inspect and repair trailers, including dry vans and refrigerated vans
  • Work with drivers to determine the root cause of complaints and perform repairs
  • Utilize diagnostic computer systems and other electronic tools to diagnose and repair issues
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and ensure all paperwork is completed in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy duty and medium duty equipment
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach, and crawl for virtually the entire shift
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist others when lifting is required
  • Must be computer literate and have experience with engine, ABS, transmission, etc. diagnostic equipment and software
  • Must be able to work in a dusty, greasy environment with moderate to high noise volume
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens, including drug, background, and criminal checks
