Job Title: Fire Alarm Designer

The Fire Alarm Designer will be responsible for designing and engineering fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes and project specifications. This role requires strong technical knowledge of fire protection codes and operations, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes and project specifications.
  • Participate in the review process with other design team members and drafters, as requested by management.
  • Develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts using software such as AutoCAD.
  • Review all designs before submitting for approval to ensure they meet Fire & Safety Specialists, Inc. quality standards and code requirements.
  • Follow all Fire & Safety Specialists, Inc. policies and procedures during daily work activities.
  • Work independently or with others as a team to complete all tasks and related design functions.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Applicable degree from a technical school or college a plus.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems.
  • Minimum NICET Level II-certification in Fire Alarm, with plans to obtain Level III.
  • Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and other software programs required to perform job.
  • Proficient in the understanding of current NFPA 72 inspection, testing, and troubleshooting requirements.
  • Familiarity with and the ability to read, interpret, and apply NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and International Fire Code (IFC).
  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and time management skills; and the ability to multi-task.
