Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Polysomnography Technician to join our team at WVU Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting sleep studies, preparing patients for procedures, and providing technical data to physicians for diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and prioritize scheduling of sleep studies, ensuring proper document flow and storage.
  • Prepare patients for and conduct sleep studies, including routine and specialized procedures.
  • Meet competency standards within 3 months of hire date, including adult and pediatric patients.
  • Provide technical data to physicians for diagnosis and assist in the technical training of house-staff and technician trainees.
Requirements
  • Must hold a current Allied Health Credential or be enrolled in a Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) approved Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR) designated focused education program.
  • Must obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date and designated registry within 18 months of hire as a Polysomnography Tech to retain employment.
  • Preferred qualifications include an Associates Degree in an Allied Health Field, one year of health care experience, and one year of Sleep Lab experience.
Working Environment

The Polysomnography Technician will work in the Sleep Evaluation Center, at the bedside, and in critical care areas of the hospital. The successful candidate must be able to lift, push, or pull minimum of 40 pounds, sit or stand for extended periods, and work during unscheduled hours.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate and understand instructions, information, and/or concepts to report patient information, explain procedures, and compile technical reports.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, stand on feet for extended periods, lift, carry, push, and pull objects and patients of various weights.
