Position Overview:
The Oregon State Government is seeking a dedicated professional to serve as the Supervisor Fish and Wildlife Biologist. This role is pivotal in overseeing critical projects aimed at the conservation and management of aquatic ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Ocean Recreational Boat Survey and the Commercial Troll Sampling Project, managing a team of permanent and seasonal staff to achieve project goals.
- Coordinate monitoring efforts for recreational and commercial ocean fisheries.
- Design and implement comprehensive sampling programs in ocean ports and estuaries.
- Oversee the hiring and management of seasonal personnel.
- Analyze and summarize technical data to inform management strategies.
- Prepare reports to fulfill contractual obligations and respond to information requests.
- Engage with ocean fishery user groups and the fishing industry to provide guidance on regulatory matters.
Work Environment:
This position involves a mix of office work and field activities, including travel to observe sampling operations and attend relevant meetings. The role requires effective communication with various stakeholders, including challenging interactions.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a minimum of three years of biological experience in fish or wildlife programs, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity. A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a related field with substantial biological coursework, is required. Advanced degrees may substitute for some experience.
