Role Overview

As a CPU Physical Design Methodology and Optimization Engineer at Apple, you will contribute to the development of innovative CPU designs, focusing on improving Power, Performance, and Area (PPA) through the application of machine learning techniques in the silicon design space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with CPU CAD and design teams to engineer new flows and algorithms to enhance PPA.
  • Develop detailed analyses across partitions to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Design and implement new physical design-focused flows to improve CPU performance and efficiency.
  • Work with STA, library, tech, and post-silicon teams to optimize physical design during the design phase.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Electrical engineering fundamentals in digital circuits, timing/power concepts, and logic design.
  • Basic scripting skills to interface with tools and mine data.
  • Experience using industry-standard synthesis, PnR, and STA tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong fundamentals in high-performance and low-power physical design techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting (e.g., Python, TCL, Perl).
  • Understanding of challenges related to deep sub-micron technology and ability to write algorithms and code to extract Power, Performance, and Area during physical design.
