Lead Firearms Instructor

Job Summary:

The Lead Firearms Instructor will be responsible for overseeing the training of Federal Flight Deck Officers at our training venue. This includes checking in students, verifying weapons and credentials, conducting training, and ensuring the safety of all personnel on the range.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all classroom instruction and deliver approved TSA training and safety briefs
  • Ensure a minimum number of SFIs are present to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session
  • Maintain a sufficient inventory of training supplies at the training venue to support monthly requalification sessions
  • Ensure proper scoring of targets, completion of applicable administrative forms, and collection of training data
  • Sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify
  • Keep all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session
  • Oversee time keeping of all SFI labor hours
  • Comply with internal compliance training events

Requirements:

  • Current or former federal law enforcement agent, officer, or civilian employee with completed recognized federal firearm instructor training program
  • 5 years of firearms training experience
  • Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range
  • Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties
  • Exposure to high volumes of noise due to the firing of weapons will occur and employees are required to wear hearing protection
  • Exposure to expelled gun-powder as a result of fired ammunition is expected, and employees must wash hands after handling ammunition
