Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team at Tencarva Machinery Company. As a Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating various manual metalworking machine tools, including lathes, mills, and boring mills. You will also be responsible for maintaining a safe working space and a high quality of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, balancers, and other machine tools.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Perform manual milling and general machining operations, including drilling, milling, slotting, and boring to bearing fits with tolerances of +/- .002".
  • Perform general manual and turning operations, including boring, grooving, and threading with tolerances of +/- .0005".
  • Perform surface grinding operations, including manual wet and dry, limited form, spin, and tolerances of +/- .0002".
  • Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, equipment, and unit test to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Inspect imperial and metric features.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Maintain the shop area in a safe, clean, and working order.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1-2 years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, use of whole numbers, and percentage and decimals.
  • Basic computer skills and internet software knowledge.
Equipment Operated
  • Forklift, hoist, crane, sandblasting, lathe mills, band saw, drill press, balancer, paint booth, equipment vertical boring mill, horizontal boring mill, outside micrometers, inside micrometers, depth micrometers, dial calipers, dial bore, gauge dial indicators, thread gauges, vernier high gauge, power and hand tools, and other equipment deemed necessary to fulfill the functions of the job.
