Medical Physicist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Medical Physicist to join our team at Ochsner LSU Health System. As a key member of our radiation oncology department, you will be responsible for providing radiation physics support for the treatment of patients with cancer and other diseases requiring radiation therapy.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in patient treatment planning and review performance improvement records.
- Assist with the preparation of special procedures, including radioactive implants, stereotactic radiosurgery, and stereotactic body radiation therapy.
- Verify patient dose delivery by performing electronic and paper chart QA checks of calculations and treatment plans.
- Participate in QA programs for radiation-producing machines and assist with equipment maintenance and repair.
- Perform patient-specific dose measurements for determination of monitor units or verification of treatment.
- Consult with dosimetrists, therapists, and staff as required.
- Participate in activities for professional development and maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, and credentials/age-specific competency.
- Master's degree in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics, or related field.
- 2 years of experience in clinical medical physics, including documented experience in a clinical CT environment conducting at least 10 CT performance evaluations under the direct supervision of a board-certified medical physicist.
- Board Eligible in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics.
- Ph.D. in medical physics, radiological physics, or related field.
- Certification in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics.
The incumbent works in a patient care area, works in an area where patients enter, works directly with patients, and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be an occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
