Job Summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is seeking a highly skilled Accountant, Fixed Assets to join our team. As a key member of the Corporate Accounting team, you will be responsible for maintaining the fiscal integrity of the district and providing financial leadership to the Chicago Board of Education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and process invoices for capital and fixed assets, ensuring timely and accurate transactions within Oracle subledgers and other platforms.
  • Prepare and submit various cash, property tax, payables, and payroll-related journals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with district policies.
  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations for large complex bank accounts, resolving variances and providing supporting schedules and narrative notes.
  • Support the district's Cash and Investment operation by completing assigned daily and monthly processes, monitoring items being processed, and communicating status with other CPS offices, departments, and divisions.
  • Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations and analyses, identifying transactions within bank statements and electronic extracts, and developing journal entries to correct and adjust balances.
  • Perform accounting duties to properly allocate revenues and expenses to the correct units, funds, accounts, programs, grants, and fiscal year within the general ledger.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), and the Annual Financial Report (AFR) submitted to ISBE.
  • Support the annual external audit and internal audits by preparing assigned PBC (prepared by client) audit schedules.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with an Accounting concentration.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in Accounting, Auditing, and/or Financial Reporting.
  • Previous experience in bank, G/L account, and fixed asset reconciliations is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid CPA license.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Oracle Financials and SQL programming language skills are preferred.
