Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ophthalmic Scrub Technician to join our team at Ramin Tayami MD Inc. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for ensuring the operating room is properly prepared for daily procedures, including preparation of supplies, sterilization of equipment, and cleaning of the operating room.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room for daily procedures, including preparation of supplies and sterilization of equipment.
  • Ensure a sterile environment is maintained throughout the procedure.
  • Assist the surgeon throughout the surgical case, ensuring compliance with aseptic sterile technique.
  • Check and supply the operating room at the end of scheduled cases.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies within budget.
  • Organize supplies and equipment in a space-efficient manner.
  • Maintain equipment manuals and update them as needed.
  • Provide in-service training to staff on sterile technique, equipment, and procedures.
  • Check the surgeon's preference card is current and accessible.
  • Provide emotional support to patients.
  • Assist in reviewing policies and procedures on a yearly basis.
  • Attend update and continuing education courses relevant to the specialty area.
  • Attend yearly in-service for all required education updates, including OSHA, fire safety, and disaster planning.
  • Scrubs hands and arms, dries, and dons sterile gown and gloves according to AORN standards.
  • Set up sterile operating fields with instruments and supplies necessary for the procedure.
  • Maintain a safe environment for treating surgical patients, including safeguards to protect patients from cross-infection.
  • Obtain current basic CPR certification.
  • Responsible for having correct sutures and instruments for the surgeon at all times.
  • Isolate dirty or contaminated instruments and supplies as used, to minimize the spread of infection.
  • Assist in implementing quality assurance programs.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of an appropriate surgical technician program or previous surgical technician experience of at least two years.
  • Materials ordering/management is desirable.
  • Able to commit to 3-4 days/week, with surgeries scheduled every Tuesday-Thursday, and 1-2 Fridays/month.
  • **Please note that experience in Cataract surgery is required**.
