We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Grand Island, Nebraska Veterans Medical Center. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in our Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program.
Responsibilities- Provide full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
- Work under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) or provider to observe, record, and report changes in the Veteran's condition.
- Assist in the development and revision of the Veteran's care plan.
- Administer medications and injections, observing and documenting patient response and reporting change in the patient's condition.
- Perform urine specimen collections, breathalyzer, and other point of care specimen collection as ordered.
- Participate in nursing reports and other care team meetings to ensure continuity in Veterans care.
- Participate in patient/family teaching programs related to health promotion and reinforces instructions provided by the registered nurse and physician.
- Initiate therapeutic communications with Veterans and families utilizing formal and informal communication processes.
- Initiate and evaluates Veterans participation in the mental health setting such as nursing led groups and community meetings.
- Participate in unit committees as directed.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Must be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia.
- Must have a minimum of 6 months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN.
This is an intermittent employment position, which means that the work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable. The employee will be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination and background investigation.
