Environmental Compliance Engineer

Position Summary
The Regulation & Certification Department at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a skilled Certification and Compliance Engineer to contribute to our efforts in ensuring that Hyundai and Kia vehicles adhere to stringent environmental and emissions regulations at various levels, including federal, state, and local.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate emissions and fuel economy testing schedules for the Certification and Compliance Team.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of testing protocols to guarantee adherence to official EPA and CARB standards, actively addressing any related issues.
- Analyze emissions and fuel economy data, ensuring compliance with testing procedures across both in-house and external contractors.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication within the team.
- Engage in additional projects as assigned by management.
- Maintain the in-use emissions database and generate necessary reports.
- Input required emissions data into the EPA EV-CIS database.
- Review and interpret federal and state regulations concerning EPA and CARB testing procedures, ensuring compliance and assisting management in resolving discrepancies.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of engine and emission control system testing operations, with the ability to quickly diagnose technical issues.
- Prepare and present technical reports as required.
- Possess exceptional organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on conflict resolution between testing requestors and entities.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
Qualifications:
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with management and peers.
- Strong understanding of the certification process, automotive testing, and engineering principles.
- Familiarity with vehicle emissions regulations, including CFR 40 Parts 86, 600, and 1066, with the capability to interpret and apply these regulations.
- Knowledge of automotive manufacturing and engine management operations is advantageous.
- Experience with HEV, PHEV, and BEV technologies is beneficial.
- Familiarity with ETAS (INCA) and/or CAN DB tools is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Adaptability to rapidly changing business needs.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Basic project management skills.
- Strong time management and organizational abilities.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related analytical/technical field.
- 3-5 years of experience in Emission/Evaporation Testing Processes.
- 1-3 years of experience in Quality Control Development or similar process development.
- Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
