Creative Music Therapy Specialist

As a Music Therapy Specialist, you will deliver therapeutic music services to individuals ranging from children to seniors. Your role includes documenting the delivery of these services and assessing patient progress.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Develop and implement music therapy programs tailored to the needs of patients aged 3 to 99.
- Maintain accurate records of service provision, including patient assessments and progress documentation.
- Contribute to performance improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the management of music supplies and equipment, ensuring proper documentation of all purchases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SKILLS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Creative approach to programming and adapting music activities for diverse age groups in a therapeutic environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of music therapy principles and practices.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma and a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
CERTIFICATION:
- Must be board certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (MT-BC).
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of one year of experience in providing music therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults, preferably in a psychiatric context.
- Exposure to specialized areas such as horticulture, recreation, outdoor activities, sports, art, or dance is advantageous.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Capability to lift items weighing between 25 to 50 pounds.
- Frequent physical activities including pushing, pulling, kneeling, grasping, twisting, and bending.
- Repetitive hand use is required.
- Hearing and vision must be correctable to normal ranges.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least six months of experience in individual, group, and family therapy, case management, and discharge planning, ideally within an inpatient psychiatric facility.
- Familiarity with ethical and legal responsibilities related to reporting abuse is essential.
