Clinical pharmacists play a crucial role in managing medication therapy for patients, ensuring safe, effective, and economical treatment options. This includes the preparation of medications, participation in the medication distribution process, monitoring drug therapies, and providing essential drug information to both patients and healthcare providers.
They are also responsible for delivering clinical pharmacy services, addressing medication-related issues for individual patients, and enhancing the overall medication use process.
Effective communication is vital; clinical pharmacists must work collaboratively with team members and engage professionally with all pharmacy patients, their families, and staff members, ensuring superior customer service during all interactions.
Clinical pharmacists are expected to mentor and support trainees within the department, including students, interns, residents, or new staff.

- Oversee the medication use process, ensuring the preparation and dispensing of medications aligns with established policies, laws, and regulations governing pharmacy practice. Address challenges within the medication use process for both patients and the organization.
- Evaluate appropriate drug information and literature resources, providing effective communication to diverse audiences, including patients and other healthcare professionals.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the organization and department to enhance patient care, medication use processes, and pharmacy operations.
- Supervise daily workflows to ensure the completion of tasks assigned to pharmacists and their support staff (e.g., technicians, residents, students, or interns).
- Educate and train residents, students, interns, and colleagues, while also supervising technicians and trainees in their respective duties.
- Capability to perform essential job functions as outlined in the position description.
- Willingness and ability to train department trainees (e.g., students, residents, new staff).
- Proficiency in assessing patient data and delivering care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients in the assigned unit.
- Understanding of life span growth and development principles, with the ability to assess patient data and provide care as per departmental guidelines.
Required
- Advanced degree (PharmD or MS) or equivalent clinical practice experience.
- Proven effective communication and computer literacy skills.
- Additional qualifications may be necessary depending on the specific area of assignment. Examples include basic or advanced life-support training, residency training, or certifications.
- Current licensure to dispense controlled substances in the State of Utah.
- One of the following:
- Current time-limited license to practice as a Pharmacist in the State of Utah, valid only during specified state emergencies.
- Current Pharmacist license in the State of Utah.
- Additional licensing requirements as determined by the hiring department.
- PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
- PGY2 in a relevant acute care specialty or equivalent experience
Employees must be able to meet the following requirements with or without accommodation.
- This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects. This position involves standing for extended periods and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
