Job Overview
Deliver comprehensive nursing care to individuals within a correctional environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support healthcare providers, registered nurses, and allied health professionals during examinations, treatments, special tests, and routine procedures.
2. Gather patient health histories, collect laboratory specimens, monitor vital signs, and administer TB skin tests.
3. Conduct laboratory tests and ensure results are communicated to the appropriate physician or registered nurse.
4. Verify that patients receive appropriate care for their injuries or conditions.
5. Review patient charts; document and report observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in patients' conditions.
6. Organize and manage paperwork for patient transfers to medical facilities or external healthcare providers; administer medications; execute healthcare practitioners' orders and document all patient interactions using the POMR format.
7. Implement safety, environmental, and infection control protocols.8. Uphold Ica Farmville's Standards of Professional Conduct, while embodying and supporting the organization's core values, mission, and vision.
9. Respond to requests from Security Staff and Ica Farmville Staff in accordance with organizational and facility guidelines.
This includes adhering to the established rules and regulations for employee conduct and the chain of command set forth by the command staff while operating within the detention/correctional facility.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required
- Familiarity with patient care documentation and histories.
- Understanding of clinical operations and record-keeping.
- Proficiency in executing clinical nursing procedures.
- Knowledge of patient assessment techniques.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Awareness of relevant accreditation and certification requirements.
- Understanding of proper procedures and standards for medication administration and patient care aids.
- Capability to prepare and process laboratory samples following established protocols.
- Ability to observe, assess, and document symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Requires significant physical effort; ability to lift, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Physical activity constitutes the primary aspect (over 70%) of the role.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Current state licensure as a Practical or Vocational Nurse.
- Current CPR certification from recognized organizations.
- Other relevant professional experiences or educational backgrounds may be considered as appropriate.
However, when licensure is mandated by local, state, federal, or contractual guidelines, we will maintain our position on those requirements.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort- Work is generally conducted in a clinical environment.
- Significant physical activity is involved.
Work settings may expose individuals to potentially hazardous materials and situations, necessitating adherence to extensive safety precautions and the potential use of protective equipment.
