As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals, you will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population. This position operates within the Operating Room, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures while providing exceptional patient care across various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Care: Deliver safe and effective nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Policy Compliance: Adhere to hospital and departmental policies, ensuring high standards of care.
- Care Planning: Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, considering age-specific needs and discharge planning.
- Assistance with Procedures: Support special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent is obtained.
- Emergency Response: Assist in implementing emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients.
- Training and Development: Participate in the orientation and evaluation of new staff, enhancing professional growth through educational programs and workshops.
- Patient Safety: Follow safety-related policies and actively seek opportunities to improve patient safety.
- Environmental Maintenance: Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications (excluding IV medications) and monitor patient responses, documenting findings accurately.
Education:
Essential: Graduate from an accredited LPN program and completion of the organization’s IV education and training program.
Experience:
Essential: No minimum experience required. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.
Credentials:
Essential: CPR for Healthcare Providers/BLS certification within 30 days and a valid LPN license in New Mexico or reciprocal agreement.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves heavy work, requiring the ability to exert significant force to move objects or patients, along with adherence to safety protocols regarding hazardous materials.
