Position Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in delivering direct nursing care to patients across various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. This position operates within the framework of hospital and departmental policies to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Provide safe and effective nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Policy Adherence: Comply with all hospital and nursing division policies and procedures.
  • Care Planning: Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, taking into account age-specific considerations and discharge planning.
  • Assistance with Procedures: Support special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent is obtained.
  • Emergency Response: Assist in implementing emergency measures for sudden patient developments.
  • Training Participation: Engage in the orientation and evaluation of new staff members.
  • Medical Records Management: Ensure patient medical records are complete and accurate.
  • Safe Environment Maintenance: Uphold a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families in line with hospital standards.
  • Professional Development: Pursue growth through educational programs, literature review, and participation in workshops.
  • Patient Safety: Adhere to patient safety protocols and actively seek opportunities to enhance safety measures.
  • Routine Care Duties: Clean patient care areas, assist with treatment procedures, and perform routine nursing tasks as directed.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications, excluding IV medications, while following the Seven Rights and documenting clinical findings.
Qualifications

Education:
Must be a graduate of an accredited LPN program and complete the organization’s IV education and training program.

Experience:
No minimum experience is required. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Credentials:
Must possess CPR certification for Healthcare Providers/BLS within 30 days and hold a valid LPN license in New Mexico or a reciprocal agreement.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves heavy work, requiring the ability to exert significant force to move objects or individuals. Personal protective equipment is required when handling chemicals and biohazardous materials.
